Tensile Strength: 45,000 psi (310 MPa) Yield Strength: 40,000 psi (276 MPa) Elongation: 8% |
Physical Properties: |
Density: 2.70 g/cm3 (0.0975 lb/in3) Melting Range: 580oC-650oC (1076oF-1202oF) |
Typical Uses: |
Structural components in aircraft and aerospace applications | Automotive parts | Bicycle frames | Marine components | Industrial machinery | Sporting goods |
Welding: |
6061 is readily weldable using various welding methods, including gas metal arc welding (GMAW/MIG), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW/TIG), and resistance welding. It responds well to fusion and resistance welding processes. |
Corrosion Resistance: |
6061 has good corrosion resistance, especially in environments where it is exposed to moisture. However, it is not as corrosion-resistant as some other aluminum alloys like 5052 or 5083. |
