Aluminum alloy 7050 is a high-strength, heat-treatable alloy primarily used in aerospace applications. It is known for its exceptional strength, toughness, and corrosion resistance.
Mechanical Properties: |
---|
Tensile Strength: 78,000 psi (538 MPa) Yield Strength: 68,000 psi (469 MPa) Elongation: 10% |
Physical Properties: |
Density: 2.78 g/cm³ (0.100 lb/in³) Melting Range: 475°C-635°C (887°F-1175°F) |
Typical Uses: |
♦ Aircraft structures, including fuselage components and wing skins ♦ Aerospace applications where a combination of strength, toughness, and corrosion resistance is crucial ♦ High-stress structural components in the aerospace and defense industries |
Welding: |
7050 is generally considered weldable using standard welding methods, including gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW/TIG) and gas metal arc welding (GMAW/MIG). However, welding should be approached with care, and special precautions may be necessary to avoid heat-affected zone issues. |
Corrosion Resistance: |
7050 offers good corrosion resistance, especially in comparison to some other high-strength aluminum alloys. Its corrosion resistance can be further enhanced with protective coatings. |
